The wait is finally over! Today, Honourable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced details for the opening of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program, promoting family reunification.

Starting 12 p.m. EDT on the 13th of October 2020 to 12 p.m. EST on the 3rd of November, 2020, the online application form will be open for Permanent Residents and Canadians to send their applications to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada.

Those selected for this program will have at most 60 days to submit their complete applications. Normally there are 20,000 spots available, however due to the suspension caused by the pandemic (COVID-19), there will be 10,000 available spots this year and about 30,000 in 2021.

It is important for those interested to apply for this program to be prepared and be very quick because we cannot predict what happens during the time the application is open. In the previous program, the system suddenly closed in a just a few minutes causing hundreds if not thousands of people frustrated killing their hopes to bring their parents/grandparents to Canada in 2019.

Don’t forget to share this post to your friends in Canada who are interested in sponsoring their parents or grandparents to come to Canada as this won’t last long. Next invitation will be in 2021.

According to Marco Mendecino on his Twitter post a few hours ago “Our government strongly believes in the importance of keeping families together—particularly during difficult times. The Parents and Grandparents Program is a dedicated pathway to reuniting more families in Canada”
